In the Best Interest of the Child: the Norwegian Approach to Child Protection

Abstract In the present paper, we discuss three challenges with Norwegian Child Protective System (CPS) that might have contributed to recent criticism from European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). First, how balance rights child those parents. Second, psychological field’s influence on interpretation what constitutes best interest child, and third describe several missing links in CPS work. Throughout find indications a well-developed Act, but less optional practice. Likewise, evidence for narrow related expert psychologists’ application attachment theory, organizational educational shortcomings area CPS. We conclude is not fully seen as legal subject eyes ECtHR, more research into measures organization are needed better deliver adequate assistance vulnerable families.
